The man behind the mustard from Kökar
Från hobby till hantverk – och vidare till världen
It all began in 2020, when Olle’s wife gave him a mustard-making course as a gift. What started as a hobby quickly turned into a passion – and soon, on the island of Kökar, Klosterprodukter Ab was born. The company name means Monastery products and and refers to the Franciscan monastery that existed on Kökar in the 15th century.
Today, the mustards are made in a small factory by the sea, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the archipelago.
After two world championship titles, Olle is already planning the next steps: new equipment, growing production, and sharing the taste of the archipelago with the world.
– “I have a passion for genuine flavour. And now I want as many people as possible to experience it,” says Olle Dahl.

Mustard factory
In the heart of Kökar, in the small village of Karlby, lies our mustard factory – right next to the local Skärgårdsbutiken.
Here, where the sea feels close and the wind carries the scent of salt and seaweed, all our products are made by hand.
Each flavour has grown from careful craftsmanship, patience, and a love for genuine ingredients.
We believe that the taste of the archipelago cannot be created in a large industrial hall – it must be born here, among the rocks, in the silence, with a view of the sea.
This is where our mustards find their soul and their character.
Our process
It all begins with the mustard seeds. We use both yellow and brown seeds – the yellow ones give a round and mild flavour, while the brown add heat and depth.
The seeds are gently ground in our factory in Karlby, just before production, to preserve all their natural aromas.
The mustard is mixed in small batches, with every step done by hand – from grinding and seasoning to tasting and packaging. We add nothing unnecessary, only pure ingredients, patience, and passion.
When the last jar is filled and the label is placed, we know that every product carries the same feeling as where it all began: the scent of the sea, the silence of the rocks, and the true taste of the archipelago.
